Okay, so you’re broke. Join the club. With all the layoffs, health insurance mandates, hour cuts and price increases on basic necessities, a dollar just doesn’t go as far as it used to anymore. Even though you feel like you are swimming with your head just above the deep end of the pool, you need to know that you aren’t alone. A lot of people need help with money these days, but possible solutions aren’t as easy to come by.
Right now, dozens of talking heads on various economic television programs and in articles like this one are arguing about whether the country is still in a recession or if it’s finally recovering. But does it really matter? Regardless of whether or not the country is officially in a recession or depression or whatever, you still can’t pay your bills. Where can you go? What can you do?
Options for Financial Assistance:
First, let’s get the unattractive options out of the way. Robbing a bank or a convenience store is not an option. You may need help making money, but you don’t want to go to prison to get it!
Unfortunately, some people do think robbery is an appropriate method to get the money they need. Maybe they rob a store to get food to put on the table for their kids, or maybe like this guy, they need funds for other, less important reasons.
No matter what, committing a crime is not your answer to your money problems. Not only is it against the law, it’s just not the right thing to do. There are other ways you can get financial assistance and not end up on America’s Most Wanted. As my daughter’s kindergarten teacher says, “You need to make better choices”.
So, what are those better choices? Try these on for size:
- Borrow from a friend or family member. Although this option is definitely popular, it’s not always the best idea. While you probably won’t need to undergo a credit check or sign away your first born for collateral, if you do not repay the loan, you could irreparably damage the relationship. Tread carefully, if this is the option you choose. Money comes and goes, but you will still see Aunt Stella at family events for years to come.
- Borrow money from a payday loan company. You’ve seen the commercials and received the emails. “Get $1,000 in your bank account today without a credit check.” Sure, you can get help with money this way, but be sure you know what you’re getting yourself into. These are short-term loans that require repayment within 14 days. If you do not repay it in that time, you will be subject to huge fees. Even if you do pay it back on time, you will still be paying an extremely high interest rate. Some loans are as high as 5,000 percent. Yep, you read that right. 5,000 percent. Even if you get a reasonable loan at the average interest rate of 400 percent, you’re still looking at a much higher rate than just about any other method of getting a loan.
- Get another job. Ask any economic expert how to people who need help with money can improve their situation and he will say, “Earn more money.” It sure sounds simple, doesn’t it? Well, it actually is. The more money you have coming in, the better your financial situation will be. There are part-time jobs available everywhere. You simply need to apply and accept the fact that you might not enjoy what you do at that job for a while. Remember: you’re not making a life-altering decision by flipping burgers for a few months. You’re just trying to get a little extra cash. It’s not complicated, but you have to swallow your pride a little bit and do what you need to do.
Begging – The Last Resort for People Who Need Help with Money:
There comes a time when even the strongest person in the world isn’t too proud to beg. If you truly need assistance with money, your time might be now. Fortunately, there are websites popping up all over the place to facilitate your begging strategy. You simply go to one of these sites and set up a personal page. You state why you’re having trouble with money and open the site up for donations.
These sites feature ads posted by people who need all sorts of financial assistance. There are people begging for the money to get their teeth fixed so they can get a job. Someone is worried he’s going to lose his home unless he can raise the money for his next mortgage payment. Another person just wants to sell you his car so he can move across the country to live with the love of his life. Awwww. It almost makes me want to open up my wallet right now.
Anyway, there are many ways for you if you need help with money. If you don’t want to try any of the above methods, be creative and think of one yourself. You never know when your corner lemonade stand could turn into the next big craze and make you a millionaire. Take a chance and make it happen.
