If you are making enough money just to get by, you deserve more. Living paycheck to paycheck is nobody’s dream, but unfortunately, more people are in this position than you would think.
No, it’s not just you who is scrounging around for change in your couch cushions a couple days before payday. These days, everything seems to cost more but salaries have largely stayed the same or even gone down, meaning your paycheck is definitely not going as far as it once seemed to.
Ask an expert what to do to make more money and you’ll hear, “Get a better-paying job”. Oh, sure. Easy for him to say. Doesn’t he think you would have done that already if it was possible to do?
That kind of advice is just plain dumb. You need advice that is practical and can help you meet the goal of living a better life than working your butt off just to get by.
Monetize Your Hobby:
What do you like to do? It’s a question you’ve been asked by blind dates time and time again. However, you need to really think about your answers because your financial freedom could lie in your hobbies. For example, I have always liked to write. I had the dream of becoming a blockbuster author who could retire on royalties from the books and movies I would sell. Yeah, that never happened. Life has a way of getting in the way.
However, I found a way to make money from writing. I may not be working on the next Harry Potter series, but I am earning a living doing what I love to do. I’m not going to get rich from writing for the Internet. I have to work hard to earn a buck. That being said, the time I spend writing doesn’t feel like work and I’m getting paid for it.
Another friend of mine loved football so much that he decided to become an usher at a professional sports stadium on weekends. It’s not a lot of money, but he’s basically getting paid to watch a sport he is passionate about. He can do something he already does (watch football) and earn a little extra cash at the same time. Talk about the best of both worlds!
Find Online Work:
Sometimes, you just wish there were more hours in the day so you could work more hours just to get by. Unfortunately, your job probably has set hours and even if you’re taking full advantage of them, there are just times when you won’t be able to work. This is where working over the Internet can come in. There are literally thousands of jobs available for part-time work online. These jobs can often be worked at any time of the day or night. So, if you can’t work your regular job after your kids get home from school, you can wait until they’re in bed.
The only catch here is that you need to do your research. The advent of the Internet has given rise to all sorts of scams. You’re trying to make money, not lose it, so, be sure to check out reliable websites that can point you in the direction of legitimate online jobs. You do not want to fall victim to a fraudster trying to make some quick cash off of innocent job seekers.
Don’t Just to Get By – Pay Yourself First!
This is the single best strategy you can use to start doing more than what is needed just to get by. You don’t have to pay yourself much. In fact, you probably can’t afford to pay much if you’re living paycheck to paycheck; however, ever single penny counts. Benjamin Franklin once said, “A penny saved is a penny earned.” How right he was. If you don’t spend it, it will be there when you need it.
It might be hard at first to put some money aside for your future instead of putting it toward bills, but you’ll get used to it. Even if you can only put away $5 per paycheck, you will be amazed at how quickly you will have a little nest egg in case something comes up that you can’t afford from your regular paycheck. If you can’t afford $5, start with $1. Cut back on something you normally spend a dollar on and put it in your account instead.
There are many websites and personal finance publications that can help you develop your plan to pay yourself first. Start saving a little money whenever you can and before you know it, you’ll be in a better position financially to do the things you want to do. Your life does not have to be this way. You can make better use of the money you have coming in or you can devise a plan to get more cash flowing. The first step is asking for help. You’ve done that and now you’re well on your way.
